Fortunately, the first wave of Hurricanes/Tropical storms has passed us by. No wind and a little rain are always a good thing at the nursery.
In other news, Jackfruit continues to ripen and be harvested. It was a very plentiful crop this year. We are also harvesting Fuchs and Russell avocado cultivars. Hopefully, the ambrosia beetle won’t wipe out future crops. The Longan fruit is winding down, but there are a few trees which still have fruit on them. We also have Miracle Fruit Tree seedlings (Synsepalum dulcificum), which are about 12 inches tall.
Finally, it appears after several attempts at grafting the true Yellow Royal Poinciana Tree, 3 have survived. We will have to wait and see. In the meantime, more attempts will be made in an effort to have this tree in stock.

Notwithstanding the wipeout by the rain, we had a very nice time at Fairchild Tropical Garden. Saturday was a wash out because of the heavy rain and lightening. However, it gave me an opportunity to hear some of the very fine lectures. Summer is about mid-way through and the heat and humidity are high. The plants and trees are going crazy, they are loving it. We continue to harvest Jackfruit and Longans. Star Fruit are beginning to come in. Summer continues to be very hot, and at least for the next few days there does not appear to be any rain in the forecast.

Fairchild Tropical Gardens will be hosting a butterfly show and butterfly plant sale the weekend of July 25 and 26th. In addition to the plant sale, there will be lectures and demonstrations on how to establish a butterfly garden both days. Please stop by and say hello, as I will be selling butterfly host and nectar plants on those 2 days.
We tasted the first Smooth Cayenne Pineapple that we planted last winter, and it was very sweet and very delicious. There are many more to come. The mangos have all been harvested, but the avocados, jackfruit, and longans continue to be harvested.
Finally, more than 2 dozen Atala butterflies have metamorphosed from a Florida Coontie planted right next to the barn. The butterflies didn’t seem to mind laying eggs right next to a heavily trafficked part of the nursery.
